Fan Encounter: Collectormania 2017 - by Claudine Harper

Robert Patrick was born in Marietta, Georgia on November 5, 1958, to Robert and Nadine Patrick. Robert is the eldest of five children in the Patrick family. He has two sisters Karen and Cheri and two brothers Lewis and Richard. Richard Patrick also happens to be the lead singer for the band Filter, Robert has said he takes blame for his brothers scream, because when he was a kid he would steal his guitar. Yes, Robert is a self-proclaimed bully, at least during his younger years.

Robert has lived in Dayton, Cleveland, Detroit and Boston.

In high school, Robert played basketball. When he attended Bowling State University in Ohio, he played football. In his freshman year, he was the linebacker for the varsity team.

When Robert was 26 years old, he almost drowned in Lake Erie. He swam back to shore which took him three hours. He swore to himself if he made it back alive, he would do something with his life, that he would move to California and become an actor. Obviously, he survived that three hour swim, and provides us with brilliant performances both on the small screen and big screen.

Robert moved out to Los Angeles in 1984. He started out by acting in small films that were shot sometimes in a matter of a few weeks. It was during the making of one of these films that he met his future wife Barbara Hooper.

In 1991, Robert starred in James Cameron's blockbuster hit "Terminator 2: Judgement Day". At that point, the film was the highlight of his career. Since Robert gained more exposure due to the film's popularity, he was offered larger parts in films after T2.

It was during the filming of T2 in 1990, that Robert and Barbara married. They currently live in Los Angeles and have a son, Samuel, and a daughter, Austin.

In 2000, the producers of the FOX series "The X-Files" were in need of an actor to portray their newest character, Special Agent John Doggett. Chris Carter remembered Robert from when he auditioned for a role on "Harsh Realm" (in which Robert's friend, D.B. Sweeney, got cast due to Robert being unavailable at the time they needed him to film the series).

Carter auditioned over 70 actors for the Doggett role and remained determined to get Robert Patrick. In July of 2000, Robert was cast as the new male lead on "The X-Files". He stayed with the show until it's final episode in May of 2002.

Robert enjoys working on TV shows because it gives him more time to spend with his wife and children.

In 2001, Robert was named one of TV Guide's Ten Sexiest Men of SciFi.
